After the cars were painted they would go to an 'oven' to bake and harden the paint.  They began collecting the Fordite or \"Detroit Agate\" back in the 1940's.  When the painting process changed to powder coating sometime in the 60's and 70's there was no more to be collected.\u003c\/p\u003e     \n\n\u003cp\u003eCorvette Fordite comes from the Chevy Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
